Summer is vacation season, time to relax, get caught up, and plan for the fall season. Except it doesn’t quite work that way at CASA! Summer time is usually much busier for our office as cases increase with kids out of school, a lot of our fall activities are planned, and it’s the middle of “budget season” – that time of year when we have to map out the funding sources and apply for grants and donations, as well as make requests to local corporations and foundations for the upcoming year. We are fortunate to have many local funders supporting our CASA office and we appreciate their donations. But we are always seeking more support. If you own or work for a company that supports local non-profits, please let us know so we can reach out with info to see if CASA might be a good fit when they are making donations in the community.
Other great things coming up at our CASA office include:
- New advocate training classes start on Tuesday, July 9th. There’s still time to get signed up for this class – but you need to contact Melissa Ward asap to get in. This projects to be a large class and could break the record for largest volunteer class ever for our office. Help us break that record by emailing Melissa at melissa.ward@casabellcoryell.org
- Our Back-to-School Supplies campaign has started too. If you would like to donate school supplies for CASA kids, contact Fiona Williams at Fiona.williams@casabellcoryell.org to learn more. The school supplies drive runs through August.
- CASA in the FALL is set for Saturday, September 14th. This major fundraising event is hosted by the CASA Board of Directors and will be held at 6pm at the Bill Yowell Conference Center on the campus of Texas A&M University-Central Texas in Killeen. More details are coming soon and this event promises to be tons of fun with a new “bingo” format that includes dinner, raffles, and amazing items that can be won playing bingo!
- CASA will be part of the Copperas Cove National Night Out event scheduled for September 28th in downtown Copperas Cove. CASA will have an information booth and handout applications to people who wish to explore becoming an advocate. Watch for more information about this event coming soon.
Finally, I love July because it is one of the most patriotic months of the year. We are so fortunate to celebrate the opportunity to live in the greatest country on earth and enjoy the many freedoms that we have. THANKYOU to the service men and women who serve and have served our great country. Freedom also comes with responsibility and I hope you will take a moment this month to consider helping a child in care by volunteering your time for CASA. The kids we serve deserve to know how special they are and have the support they need when they are experiencing one of the loneliest times in their life. You CAN make a difference by becoming a CASA today!
Martin Luther King, Jr. said it best……”Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, “What are you doing for others?”
Happy Birthday America!!
