Director’s Note for April 2023 Newsletter

Springtime at CASA is a time of growth, rejuvenation,  and an opportunity to thank the people who enable CASA to have a positive impact on so many children in our area.

It starts with Child Abuse Prevention Month.  We hope to make others aware of this difficult topic so we can break the cycle of abuse that many children are subjected to.  There are many ways that CASA supporters can make a difference:

  1. Wear BLUE – the official color of Child Abuse Prevention Month. Help remind others that you are taking a stand against senseless violence and neglect that no child should ever have to endure.
  2. Buy a BLUE ribbon during the CASA Blue Ribbon Campaign this month. Go online at https://casabellcoryell.org/blueribbon/  to purchase your ribbon and we will display your ribbon online and in our office.
  3. Become a CASA Volunteer Advocate and have a direct impact on a child’s life. We have info online about how to sign up and get enrolled for the next CASA training class. Visit our web page at casabellcoryell.org.

April is also a time of thanks.  Our chance to say THANK YOU to our CASA volunteers who make a huge difference in a child’s life.  Volunteer Appreciation Week is coming up in a couple of weeks and we plan to acknowledge all of our advocates who have graciously stepped up to the challenge of changing the trajectory of a child’s life.  I hope our advocates feel appreciated and valued for the work they do to help break the child abuse cycle.

Finally, I must acknowledge the efforts of our team at CASA of Bell and Coryell Counties. We have the finest collection of compassionate people I have ever had the privilege of serving.  We recently underwent our Quality Assurance Review process with Texas CASA.  This is required every 3 years for all CASA offices.  It is not an easy process but our office passed with flying colors thanks to the selfless time and effort every single staff member committed to preparing for the exam. Texas CASA spent two days reviewing our records, policies, procedures, case files, and board leadership and we achieved one of the highest scores in the state.  I am so proud of this staff for coming together and working for each other to make this happen. I hope you will join me in thanking them for the energy and heart they put into serving our volunteers and the children of Bell and Coryell Counties.

We are privileged to work with many people who are passionate about helping children. I encourage you to celebrate April by helping us build awareness for Child Abuse Prevention Month and taking time to thank one of our CASA advocates this month.

Happy Easter!

Kevin
